Later, you can reconnect to the virtual console and the display will look the same as when you last disconnected from it. You can also switch between active 'screen' sessions, a bit like Alt+Tab under Windows. So far, I've only used it with one virtual session at a time, to keep it open when I have to disconnect from the host, but you can start as many programs as you want that way.
