Or did I miss your pictures ? *8-) Come on, Colin, are you contending that this ng should only be for artists, or merely that those of us who are not gifted in that area should keep our mouths shut and should not be entitled to an opinion? > news.admin.net-abuse.usenet Been there. No amount of money you can offer could make me go back, and I don't ever want to be saying that about this group. >So...you are here to save us rather than post ascii pictures ? *8-) Again, I believe anyone who loves this ng has a distinct _right_ to try to make it as enjoyable as possible. Are you really enjoying it _less_ without all the $ex for $ale spams? >The big increase in Spam in _all_ newsgroups was/is due to >a deliberate Moratorium by Anti-spammers for a number of days to >demonstrate how much newsgroup spam they were actually killing. > >Someone already posted an article here on 13 July in this thread >explaining the Moratorium. Did you miss that posting ? How come you aren't railing against the cancelbots? Do you see them as fulfilling a useful function or not? If so, then why would you feel it's ok for strangers who care nothing about this ng to cancel spam, but not for someone who actually comes here and enjoys the place? If you are, however, anti cancelbots, then I guess we just have to accept that we have a major disagreement. >No one is in-charge of alt.ascii-art...it is a free and unmoderated >newsgroup where everyone can post whatever they wish...and...other >users react accordingly. Define 'accordingly'. Is there a list of approved accordinglies? >If someone wishes to try again to revive "rec.arts.ascii" >(moderated) they can volunteer to be moderators but they will need >to attract people to post their artwork there and they will need a >reliable site and account to operate successfully. Since we are not discussing alt.ascii-art becoming 'moderated' in the sense that rec.arts.ascii was moderated, I guess I'm a bit confused about where you stand. Above, I suppose there is the implication in your comments about the moratorium, that maybe cancelbots are acceptable? But if the cancelling is done by a person who frequents this group rather than a bot that knows nothing of alt.ascii-art, it becomes unacceptable? Nobody is talking about turning this into a 'moderated' ng. The discussion is about whether or not cancelling spam (same as the cancelbots do, but directly) is acceptable. Alan My real address is alanp @ netcom.ca (without spaces) but I'm sick of email spam.
