No, I thnik that's actually a short vowel (at least that's the way all
my programming teachers, including the American ones, have said it).

(about the first vowel, I changed that after making that post. I had an
"upside down v" there first... and yes, I did pass that stupid phonetics
exam. Wow! I never expected to actually get some use for that stuff, at
least not this soon...)
