I use the word processor, PC-Write, which has only one monospaced, non-
proportional font. There is no other font available...makes life 
simple. :-)

PC-Write puts 80 characters across the screen over a screen width of 
9.6 inches and it puts 24 rows/lines of this text in a 7 inch screen 
depth.  

On my screen these circles look almost perfectly circular but on 
other peoples' screens they can look like elongated ovals or 
squashed elipses:

I also use Free Agent to post and read articles and to get a picture 
which looks about the same with minimum distortion I have settled on 
New Courier 10-point Bold as the best option. The only problem being 
the position of the ~ tilde character which New courier registers at 
a lower level than other fonts.  

Free Agent's Fixed, Mono, Non-proportional font range, except 
COURIER NEW, is somewhat limited to: 

   COURIER  10  12  15 point
   COURIER NEW  8 9 10 11 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 36 48 72 point
   FIXEDSYS  9 point only.
   TERMINAL 9 point only.

All the Free Agent fonts have the options of Regular, Italic, Bold, 
Bold Italic. 

I don't use Free Agent much to actually create pictures but it can 
be useful to check out what my picture looks like in Free Agent's
Courier New Bold 10 Point.

They talk about WSYWIG ( What You See Is What You Get ) but 
WYSINNWSES ( What You See Is Not Necessarily What Someone Else Sees ).
