Hi incognito, thanks for your post !

I haven't got a page yet. Maybe later when I'll have enough asciis and
time to built one.

To make this pic I used Netscape composer : I put the photo as
background and started typing over it. I had to brighten the photo to be
able to see the characters over it. Then I simply followed the contours
with line-style ascii (the / \ | - ... stuff), made some shading (with ;
: .), and drew some bits with solid-style (e.g. lips and lashes).

In fact it's not very difficult. Just long ! The only problem with
Netscape composer is that it doesn't have an overstrike mode (which is
better for ascii : you fill your pic with spaces then simply draw where
you want).

One more thing : if you want to draw on the edges of the picture, make
the composer window big enough to contain several pics :

You said you've made ascii pictures. You should post them I'd like to
see them ! And if you're unsatisfied you can ask for people's advice.

Wow, that's a nice apology to ascii art ...
It's true that ascii is simplistic, and one could think it's too
restrictive, but in fact it's somewhat easier than drawing with a
pencil. Maybe because it doesn't require dexterity : you draw only with
your mind ... And you can explore as many variations as you want : it
doesn't need to be perfect the first time !
It reminds me the impressionist painters : seen from further away their
paintings seem more real than realistic paintings. I think that when a
shape is approximative the brain fills the missing bits.

Er ... I hope I don't look too pretentious saying all this. After all
ascii art is just something to have fun. So draw what you like as long
as you enjoy drawing !
