They do that here in Finland, dressed up as witches, carrying little pots and pans.. They give a decorated willow branch (with the little furry "kittens" on them) in exchange for the sweets. The ritual is also accompanied with a silly poem that's recited as the willow branch is waved about. I tried to translate it but as it doesn't make too much sense in Finnish IMHO, I thought it would make half as much in English.. :-D Some other Finn can try if they really want to.. Virvon varvon.. >My kids hunt for easter baskets >in the house -- and there is some candy in the baskets... >not as much as what they might haul in on Halloween though. When I lived in England the kids hunted for easter eggs with the aid of clues the "easter bunny" (aka mum or dad :-) had left them.. I've seen some of those big chocolate eggs with toys inside here in Finland too, but the custom hasn't caught on. Probably never will, the witch thing is such an old tradition, and the whole easter believing in Finland is related to witches. ObAscii: | | | | | | /X\ //X\\ A broom for a witch! :-)
