Krog has been posting the FAQ quite frequently in your absence.

Don Bertino, the former moderator, turned up again in the New Year
and announced that the group was in business again. There was a brief
flurry of postings...then it died again. Krog modified your FAQ to
mention the revival of r.a.a.

Moderated newsgroups just die if people do not post enough traffic
to keep them going...then the moderator loses interest and goes
AWOL...and the group dies another death.

The only way to make rec.arts.ascii viable is to de-moderate it and
that cannot happen unless the incumbent moderator makes the
suggestion to unmoderate to the Moderator of news.announce.newgroups,
David C. Lawrence ( Usenet King ) and Don Bertino will never be
willing to do that...so the newsgroup stays dead.

Nobody can unmoderate a newsgroup and nobody can force a moderator
to vacate the position against their will...Usenet moderation is a
Mickey Mouse system.

> * Is this leave-sigs-on/take-sigs-off debate EVER going to end?

I think you mean credits of the artist being left on artwork instead
of being stripped ? No, it will never end because stripping has
been a tradition since Ascii Art first appeared. All the Stephen
Sullivan collections were stripped on compilation and he could never
remedy that.

> * Does `Miss Kitty' have a REALLY bad attitude, or what?

Miss kitty doesn't think so. :-)

I would be interested in reading any suggestions for changes in the
next version of the FAQ. At the moment I plan:

Best of luck...it comes and goes at the drop of a hat and is totally
unpredictable.

> But I don't see anything else major which needs doing ...

I would like to see Martin Atkin's "FONT.FAQ" either included in the
main FAQ or perhaps issued as a separate standalone Mini-FAQ.
You could check with Martin Atkins on this...he does not post it
regularly himself:
