Glad to know -someone- understood what I was getting at. I've just returned to the newsgroups after a longish break, and was kinda confused about why I was being hassled for an opinion I didn't know I had! Anyway... just for the record Colin: While I don't know firsthand what the effects of posting extended-ASCII actually are, I know that standard 7-bit ASCII is what the system expects. So it doesn't take a Computer-Scientist to realise that trying to use extended-ASCII is kinda silly, and the results will be unpredict- able. (Anyone who doesn't realise this is either naiive or stupid... and the person I was arguing to back then I believe was in the second category. ...Please note: I don't mean "naiive" in a -bad- way here.) As an afterthought: Why use extended-ASCII anyway?!? Unless you know it's going to be viewed only on systems that support it, it's not going to be very portable, is it? Joy to the world, Nathan. PS: Think I'll go dig out my c64, devise some ASCII-arts using it's cool PET-ASCII graphic-characters, and post -those-! If I claim we weren't warned about that in Computer-Science -either- do you think I'll get any bites?!?! (Note to the Colins of this world: That's sarcasm again.) :-) PPS: If you don't like me, heres my excuse: .-----------------+---------------------------------+-----------------. | \|/ ,,,, \|/ | Nathan Wain | \|/ ,,,, \|/ | | ~@-/ o@ \-@ | n.w...@student.canterbury.ac.nz | ~@-/ o@ \-@ | | /_( \__/ )_\ | | /_( \__/ )_\ | | \__U_/ | Disclaimer: I'm stupid ! | \__U_/ | `-----------------+---------------------------------+-----------------'
