Talk: Sorry Susie
First of all, I would like to apologize up front to Scarecrow for not using the subject line thingies, 'cuz I can't remember which one I should use. At any rate, I thought I would respond to Ms. (Mrs.? - no offense intended) Oviatt's post, and then add some art because I'll get hung otherwise. In article <33gts8$rp...@gagme.wwa.com>, Susie Oviatt <sus...@netcom.com> wrote: >Well, whatever. I can see that this is not worth following up. I won't >be posting here in the future. For what it's worth, though, I'm not >converting gifs. I'm looking at a picture and drawing with keystrokes. If >I were using a pencil would you call it "photocopying by yourself?" MJ sighs. I wish you didn't feel that way, I really don't, tho I can't say I blame you. The work you do that I have seen rates right up there with the very best. I've tried to do some drawings in your style (see the funky tree I posted here about a week ago and you will be able to tell I suck lemons when it comes to that!) and I can appreciate how difficult a picture like that can be. I can see where you have taken offense to what this person has said in the previous post about converting .gifs to ASCII, and I believe you are upset because they misunderstood. It is true that there are a proliferation of converted pictures recently. And I certainly don't mean to take away from them, because they are great pictures, but the work you do just far surpasses them. They are doing with a .gif converter what someone could do with a piece of tracing paper - you are doing it freehand. That's what is needed to be understood. It's unfortunate that the ASCII art loving world will be deprived of your work in the future. >Maybe the reason I've asked my name to be left intact is because I've received >my own pictures (not all are disney related) back in the mail with someone >else's name on them instead of mine. I realize that ASCII art is not right >up there with great literary works, but if I spend three hours doing a picture >it's a little disconcerting all the same. Maybe if you had ever done a >picture you'd feel differently? Or have you done one? I don't think it's much to ask of anyone to keep the creator's name with their picture, and I think that recently more people have been doing it. Your work CERTAINLY deserves to be credited to you, and I think your little line at the end of the pictures helps to preserve the credit due you. It's a shame that you have had so much trouble with this, and I think you are right about being upset. Well I've babbled enough, here's my art and then I'll go. Heck, it's pretty much Normand's work anyway, so thanks to him for helping me!! ,,ggddY""""Ybbgg,, ,agd""' `""bg, ,gdP" "Ybg, ,dP" "Yb, ,dP" _,,ddP"""Ybb,,_ "Yb, ,8" ,dP"' `"Yb, "8, ,8' ,d" "b, `8, ,8' d" "b `8, d' d' ,gPPRg, `b `b 8 8 dP' `Yb 8 8 8 8 8) (8 8 8 8 8 Yb dP 8 8 8 Y, "8ggg8" ,P 8 Y, Ya aP ,P `8, "Ya aP" ,8' `8, "Yb,_ _,dP" ,8' `8a `""YbbgggddP""' a8' `Yba adP' "Yba adY" `"Yba, ,adP"' `"Y8ba, ,ad8P"' ``""YYbaaadPP""'' _-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-._-. _________ gra...@acsu.buffalo.edu |~~~\/~~~| |~~| ,,,,;;,,-', `````````---------.........__ | |\/| | |~~|_| | ,;;;;;;;;;;| ; ________) |__| |__| \_____/ ```;;;;;''-._______........--------''''''' -_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.-_.
