I think the problem is that the things that make each chimpanzee an individual character, which become very obvious to other chimps or to humans who spend time with chimps, are not "at our fingertips" as they are with other humans (or even our dogs and cats: Nika is clearly a well-obsereved individual or type, not just "every-cat").
