This is the second time I have covered this in a week so I will just
cut and paste.

 A short falling in the english language.  There is no third person non
 sexual pronoun that does not reduce someone to "it" or as you pointed
 out make one person into many.  I wish we whould get that fixed.  I
 have submitted a bug reports to Webster and Wordsworth but they
 bounced back with some error about them being long since dead.
