Good idea. The counter on my website now has two different modes.
By default, it just spits out the new number, like in this example:
http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy

That can be inserted into a HTML-page by using an <IFRAME>. If you'd
rather use JavaScript, there's the other mode, which you can access by
just adding .js to the user id.
http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy.js

This one can be inserted into a page by using JavaScript:
<script language="Javascript"
src="http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy.js"></script>

The JavaScript style is seamless, it's like it's really part of the
webpage, not like the ugly <IFRAME>.

Now, if someone has JavaScript turned off, their browser will ignore
the <SCRIPT> tags and instead use their contents, so we can make the
counter code as failsafe as possible like this:

<script language="Javascript"
        src="http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy.js">
  <iframe src="http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy" frameborder="0"
          width="100" height="40" scrolling="no">
    <object data="http://www.nerd-boy.net/counter/nerdboy">
      Error <!-- "Error" shown when nerd-boy.net is down -->
    </object>
  </iframe>
</script>

Disclaimer: Produced no output when I turned
            off JavaScript in Ghostzilla.
