I've been a regular on alt.ascii-art since the newsgroup was created in September 1993. I vaguely remember mention of such a program way back but if you had at that time told the readers here about your intention to use the Extended Character Set above Decimal 127 and class it as ASCII and acceptable for ASCII ART you would have got the response you have got now. Ascii Art and the text basis of transmission of data on the Net require that only the Decimal characters 32 to 126 be used. People who use your program will post their creations to newsgroups and get flamed to hell for using the Extended Character Set involving the ALT key on the keyboard...their defence will be that they purchased and used Relyea's Program that said it was OK. _THEN_ everyone can flame you, the author, to a burnt and smoking black cinder. *8-) And you say you have never seen the Ascii Art FAQ ? Why not ? It was posted often enough to alt.ascii-art and there have been plenty of pointers to the FAQ. Have you even read the newest version of the FAQ ? If not why not ? I really cannot sympathize with your posting here because you have clearly not done your homwork by studying the protocols and requirements of the Net or the newsgroups; have not read FAQs but simply gone ahead regardless and produced a program to make Ascii Art. > This used to be a welcoming area, now it is nothing but a bunch of > angry cynics who hate anybody and anything new. I have been here all the time and I know that that is simply not true. The early readers were sticklers for adherence to etiquette and protocols. I am convinced that you failed to state your intention of using Extended Characters in your previous visit to this newsgroup when you first announced your projected program for Ascii Art. Perhaps a search of the old archives of Dejanews still carry your old postings here ? Finally, I am very surprised that you have not been a regular reader of the alt.ascii-art newsgroup if you are authoring programs which will produce material that will be posted here eventually. Bye,
