Red Baron Pt. 69
FLY WHERE THE CLOUDS ARE
Wind's north-east on tarmac four
When I hear her engine start up,
My ears ringing from its roar,
As her passing lifts my heart up.
Through a veil of rain she bolts,
Racing down the quaking runways,
until off she takes and floats
irresistibly sunways.

Fly where the clouds are
And not even the sky's the limit.
When a clean, white blanket buries up there
All our fears and all our worries, that's where
Everything that seemed important to us
Turns to far-away fuss.
For a long time I just gaze
As she takes the towering clouds on,
While the murky, rainy haze
Dims her lights out one by one.
Long ago my eyes have lost
That faint dot she had become, when
Finally all I heard was just
Her propeller softly humming.

After silence falls I stroll,
Draped in clothes the slush keeps soiling.
Wafting down from flight control
There's the smell of coffee boiling.
Puddles spiked with gasoline
Make an ersatz-rainbow glisten.
Clouds, reflected deep within,
Make me wish that I were with them.
