  Well, that's how I actually did it, using Word for DOS and  an
  ASCII editor... So, just as you,  I  had  to  create  all  the
  tables and formulas in a dedicatededitor and insert them  into
  a text file made with Word. But  the  wrapping  was  a  manual
  work, and the document  produced  wasn't  "robust":  a  little
  change could require an unproportionally  strenous  effort  to
  maintain the formatting (due to the lack of an inner format).

  An ideal editor would store the document in  it's  own  format
  (where tables are tables, paragra[hs stored as such  and  have
  styles etc.) and .txt is produced by the export fucntion, just
  like making a PDF from a Pagemaker document *.pmd.

  Somehow that reminds me of the Enriched mode of emacs,  but  I
  am not suer emacs can produce a correcly formatted ascii based
  on the an enriched text document...

  And, don't you know whether it's possible to write extensions for
  emacs in a programming language other than lisp?
