maze.ansi.c - ant...@nntp-server.caltech.edu (Bill T. Cat)
are the credits i have for the above
below are versions i have twiddled

char*M,A,Z,E=40,J[80],T[3];main(C){for(M=J+E,*J=A=scanf("%d",&
C)            ;--            E;J             [E            ]=M
[E   ]=  E)   printf("._");  for(;(A-=Z=!Z)  ||  (printf("\n|"
)    ,   A    =              39              ,C             --
)    ;   Z    ||    printf   (T   ))T[Z]=Z[A-(E   =A[J-Z])&&!C
&    A   ==   M              [               A              ]
|6<<27<rand()||!C&!Z?J[M[E]=M[A]]=E,J[M[A]=A-Z]=A,"_.":" |"];}

here is a version which does
at least ... it did just now using a bash shell with cygnus on win32
gcc -o maze maze.c
and
this does 40 column

char*M,A,Z,E=20,J[40],T[3];main(C){for(M=J+E,*J=A=scanf("%d",&
C)            ;--            E;J             [E            ]=M
[E   ]=  E)   printf("._");  for(;(A-=Z=!Z)  ||  (printf("\n|"
)    ,   A    =              19              ,C             --
)    ;   Z    ||    printf   (T   ))T[Z]=Z[A-(E   =A[J-Z])&&!C
&    A   ==   M              [                A              ]
|6<<27<rand()||!C&!Z?J[M[E]=M[A]]=E,J[M[A]=A-Z]=A,"_.":" |"];}

compile with gcc -o maze40 maze40.c
when run waits for input
type 15 or whatever
i did not write any of the above code
i just twiddled a few values to make it
work on my machine here using generic
tools and platform
