My full response from my previous posting is copied in the paragraph below. The ascii standard does not contain any quotes along the lines of "It is limited to ..." If you disagree, please post quote, I can't post a quote that does not exist. Now, where is YOUR quote showing a limitation, worded along the lines of "It is limited to ..." ? > |> The coding table merely defines ascii code. > If the table defines ascii code, then that which is not in the table > is not ascii. There are no gifs in the table, and hence gifs are not > ascii. There are no printouts in the coding table either, but there are obviously ascii art printouts, so you are missing the point here. The point is (again) that ascii code is not sufficient for making ascii art. You always need to add (at least) typographical code. The sum of ascii code and typographical code (which are not visible) then gets rendered (i.e. made visible) in gif format, in txt format, etc. So, there is ascii art in gif format, ascii art in txt format, ascii art printouts, etc. > That's like saying you need to add a computer to ascii art, or the art won't > appear. No, that's not correct, see the above. The context of this exchange is that you are free to use the most sophisticated software to render ascii art, you are not limited to using just basic software. > |> All my views were backed up with proven facts, if you disagree, please > |> identify which view and we can discuss. > Ya still haven't told me those "proven facts" which, as I mentioned, I seem > to have missed. Where are they? [at the very least, which articles did you post > them in?] And you did not identify which of my views you think I did not back up with proven facts. So I suggest you reread my past postings (in this and other threads) carefully and reopen specific items for further discussion. Bluff doesn't work, my friend, better is to the point discussion. > I will [temporarily, and only for the sake of argument] concede that typographical > code might be part and parcel of ascii art. If so, what typographical code is > there in a gif? Is this one of your trial balloons again? Please read a book on the basics of typography (just reading on font face, font size, font color, background color, character spacing, and line spacing should be adequate for the purpose of this discussion) and the gif89a specification document. > Hmm, I think I'd like to meet this Mr. Mainstream of yours... Mr. Mainstream is not an individual, it is the trend on the net. For example, in a short time, Mr. Mainstream has made 20% (or more) of net software html aware. ========================================================= [] .oo Visit the Gallery of the 'steins!
