I designed my Java movies to play adequately on the oldest Pentium and the
oldest PPC (for the Mac), the simplicity of ascii (and the 'steins) makes that
possible. But that is indeed a minimum requirement for the computing platform.

It can take a long time before a standard is accurately implemented. I
discovered inaccurate implementation of gif89a in IE as recent as last year, 8
years after the standard has been published ...
