Sorry I didn't crosspost it here. If you want me to I can do that in the
future. Of course, you'd have to live with the follow-ups, which can be
numerous.

Actually, I use the "HTML editor" in Netscape 4 for that purpose. When I
describe it to newbies (who might be completely new to computers!) I
don't want to frighten them by making it sound very complex and
technical, so I describe a more low-tech, even humorous, version of the
technique.

By now, after a couple of months (including one little 100+ post flame
war on that specific topic), even a very stupid person would have gotten
the message about which characters are OK and which are not OK. Even a
very stupid person would have gotten the message that there is a little
on-line proggie that you can use to check if your pictures are "pure
ASCII" or not:

The page consists of one form. That form consists of one text box and
one button. Copy a picture to the text box and click on the button.
You'll get back the picture, with any non-ascii characters highlighted,
and a message saying how many non-standard characters there are in the
picture. At the bottom of the page you'll find the same form again. If
the picture needs "fixing" it'll be in the text box, and you can just do
any adjustments, hit the button, etc, etc, etc. This is not a very
complex procedure.

If I want to assume that TooShy is intelligent then the only conclusion
I can come to at this point is that TooShy is a troll (deliberately
posting pictures with non-ascii characters to cause people to flame
him/her). What I'm saying is that I meant to be polite by calling TooShy
"troll" rather than "extemely stupid person".
