Ok, your problem. You are using Outlook Express, and it is possible that the
font you are composing messages in is not the font you are reading them in.
Make sure both "send" and "read" font settings are to a monospaced font like
Courier New.

Another possible problem: If your picture is close to the left margin, it
may want to "hug" it--Outlook Express considers a single space at the
beginning of a line as unimportant (probably because it may be a result of
word wrapping) and therefore does not show them.

so you will probably see (simple example
:)
the same as
 :)

which doesn't make a difference there but will on multiline asciis.
