It is an elaborate hoax designed to befuddle people who insist on using
vulgarity every chance they get, simply because they can. So is Easter.

celebrate it with my family because it's a cultural thing, not because
it's a religious thing. I don't do the religious part of it. I have Yule
for that.

you know many christs celebrate it and the christs who do not like
christmas or the non-christs (like i am) should be tolerant and just
let them.

i'm not celebrating christmas. neither am i celebrating 31.

I know what you meant, but just so that you know: Christ was the man they
call Jesus, Christians are those of the Christian religion. :)

Yep. I continue to celebrate on Dec.31-Jan.01, however, because I was

beginning of a new year. :)

You don't celebrate on the eve of Jan.1st simply *because* it is a
cultural thing? What do you have against cultural celebrations, if you
don't mind me asking? **S**

That's odd, I do... Can't recall whom, though, unfortunately.

The only problem with this is that I can't come up with ascii art as
quickly as the rest of you can-- so if I were expected to put a new ascii
art pic into every message, I just wouldn't be able to post. It's
unfair. So, in light of that, I will include a nice piece that someone
else has previously made -- that way, the message still includes an ascii
art pic and it is not a waste of cyber space for those that were reading
the message simply for the art.

Um... This is alt.ascii-art, after all, and if you never (or very seldomly)

I'm all for showing people you care about them and stuff, but not on a
specific day just because you're expected to. Then all the sentiment
is removed. That's why I ignore birthdays and christmas and
valentine's day and stuff.

Is it?

http://www.dictionary.com/cgi-bin/dict.pl?db=*&term=fair

    6.
a.Having or exhibiting a disposition that is free of
favoritism or bias; impartial: a fair mediator.
b.Just to all parties; equitable: a compromise that
           is fair to both factions.

It works the same way for everybody, including you.

It is a waste for those who have already seen it.

We aren't all superskillful elite ascii-makers that can't whip up a piece of art
that will be remember through the times as a classic piece of art in just 30
minutes.

It takes me hours or days (on and off) to complete a large ascii-image.
Small ones like the snowman i can do in a few minutes though

The point is not everybody makes ascii fast , some are slow , slower then you
too.

Don't worry about it !
It's not about how much art you make , but how good it is and how much YOU enjoy
it.
Make art for your own enjoyment and in your own pace and have fun sharing it
with others here ..
THAT is what this group is all about.

There is no pressure on you from us.

> so if I were expected to put a new ascii
> art pic into every message, I just wouldn't be able to post.

Thats just it .. you aren't expected to post a new piece of art in every
message.
I think you take the obligatory part of the OBascii a little to serious.

It's just a nice thing to do when you want a thread to become more on-topic
again or you simply have an idea for a quick doddle.

> It's unfair.

No it's not .. remember you dont HAVE to make obascii's ..

> So, in light of that, I will include a nice piece that someone

But it did not come from you and cannot be discussed or diddled upon because
it's already finished .. nor can we credit you for a job welldone because it's
not yours.

> and it is not a waste of cyber space for those that were reading

If you want to give the people something to look at repost the images in new
threads where they can find them .. and make it somehow fit the season or
current worldsituation .. christmas pictures can stand being reposted around
christmastime f.x , but normally recaps of old art is what we have webpages for.

Thankyou :)

I just got an idea for a simplistic hat .. and then when that was done I decide
to try for a simplistic head .. from there I thought .. hey it's christmas ..
make a snowman!
Besides .. snowmen don't have legs or arms or fingers or any of the hard things
to do.

It took me no longer to make than the post I originally wrote.

The point is you don't have to make a masterpiece .. just draw something simple
and the rest will usually come to you through divine inspiration when you are
doing it , or through someone elses diddles.

Let me try another one :

Obascii :

err let me see .. a pot !
. _
 )(/
(__)

It also looks a little like Nerdboy on the toilet.

diddle : Nerdboy in wheelchair

 o
  )/
 (o)

This part also looks like a parots head :
  )/
 (o)

let me try the parrot diddle
       _
  )/ / \
 (o)_(___)
  \_______\

OK I failed at the but it's a cute snail

You can try to make the parrot

well actually sometimes i celebrate them, sometimes i don't... it's
kinda when i feel like it i will celebrate new year but if i feel like
society squeezes me into its scheme i don't feel like celebrating
anymore (i hope you got it despite my strange english -smile-)

i think it kinda depends on my mood

yeah it's much more reasonable to celebrate new sections in life
instead of birthdays.. what's special about those days.. ok.. unless
you get 18 (16, 21.. whatever) and are allowed to do major things you
weren't allowed to do before like driving and stuff

oh come on, don't be a scrooge! chistmas/new year is the best time of
the year! you're with your family, and you can eat lots of food! yeah
though, i agree that the religion side of it is gone and has been
replaced with presents and stuff.
