I actually am making a mobile phone game. It uses the Mophun
API (www.mophun.com), and all the weird restrictions makes
it kinda fun to work with.

MIDI music range from terrible to awesome .. it all depends on skill of the artist and the quality of the MIDI hardware/software that recreates the sound. You can simulate more colors on phone with slow LCD's by alternating two colours on the same pixel .. since the liquid crystals take time to change to their new position a new intermediate color will be visible in the time between the updates. You can use this trick the effectively double the amount of colors you can display .. and then of course there is always clever dithering you could use as well. I wonder when someone will create a phonevirus that spreads across the globe because no one ever thought that someone would do that and thus didn't protect themselves. - Christian :)

Yamaha XG is the best implementation/extension of MIDI I have ever seen. I have an XG-based tone generator I hook up to my PC to play MIDI files on; the now rather dated MU-15 - and they still sound amazing ! I agree with you - Personally I use the Yamaha S-YXG50 softsynth .. I'm not seriously into MIDI so I wont buy a hardware XG card and the S-YXG100 won't run under WinXP (And for years S-YXG50 wouldn't either but they fixed that in the new version) For more info :- http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/midplug/m_mid8.htm

Yamaha didn't have the SoftSynth for the Amiga, but I tried it on a PC at college, and it didn't seem as good as the box I wound up buying. It's a fantastic little thing - the digital effects processing is incredible; I can make the electric guitar sound like something Joe Satriani would be happy playing. I have an XG-MIDI file that contains a rendition of "Voodoo Child", and it is absolutely incredible to listen to. obascii: _____ ______________ '. `. .' .......... | `. `. .' .::::::::::: | `. `. .' .::::""""""""' | `. `.' .::::' | : ::::: ::::::: | .' . Yes, T610 has the Mophun engine. > Java engine built in. Yep, that too. > Any chance of getting the NerdBoy game on my phone ?? :OD I don't know. If I make it in the Mophun environment, it has to be certified and sold. It's impossible to give away Mophun games because of their encryption and certification scheme. If I learn J2ME (the micro edition of Java) I could make a free game, but I wouldn't be able to test it on a phone since I don't have a phone that supports J2ME. So the game would probably kinda suck. It would be kinda fun though, and it would probably take up very little space (since the graphics is ASCII), which is a big plus when making games for mobile phones. obascii: .---. |.---.| ||___|| | 123 | | 456 | | 789 | | #0* | `---' -- OO Joaquim Gndara .||. http://www.Nerd-Boy.net bb jg

Yep, so I've noticed, but I'd like to make my game cross-platform. Other phones have faster displays, so the alternation would be noticeable on those. -- OO Joaquim Gndara .||. http://www.Nerd-Boy.net bb jg

Before I get the game certified, it's not possible to run it on any other phones than mine. When it's certified, people can buy it, in which case it'll be playable on their phones. It's all part of Mophun's anti-piracy scheme. > if so, I'll load it into my Nokia 3510i, that has a J2M vm! > > You're making a java game, right? Nope. Mophun is C/C++. I might make a Java game if I have the patience to learn J2ME. obascii: .-------------. | | | SonyEricsson | |_____....______| | | | .-----------. | | | | | | | OO | | | | || | | | |___bb______| | |_/no_/ _ \yes\_| | \ = \ " / c / | Something that looks kinda like my T310. -- OO Joaquim Gndara .||. http://www.Nerd-Boy.net bb jg
