E-mail and Ascii art

Just put the phrase

"You must view this with a fixed width font such as COURIER or MONACO in
order for it to make any sense at all."

at the beginning of the ascii-art.

I have purposely included only TWO names of fixed width fonts. As far as
I know, that phrase will cover you for Macs and PCs. (But as BKN has
indicated, the AOL user is still SOL without the help of a text editor.)

Chill out, reptile lady!  I *meant* /if you know/ that they have an
HTML-enabled reader.

I *know* most people don't... I was on a mailing list, and anybody who
posted in HTML got big flames.  So my default mail sending is plain-text.

Now for a separate matter, HTML in newsgroups...
Most of the newsgroups I subscribe to are pretty much HTML-only.  Someone
once posted:

"What kind of sick, twisted weirdo are you?  Posting in plain text?  You
cannot post to this newsgroup unless you have pictures, moving things, funky
fonts/backgrounds, sounds or marquees in your messages.  Given all the
wonder service these servers have provided, it's only fair to waste as much
bandwidth as possible. <g>"

My default news sending format is HTML.  (I have a counter in my .sig.. it's
reached 3,458 so far.)  But I don't post HTML in non-HTML groups like this
one...

I know better. =D

Hello all,

I read the FAQ about ascii art in signature files, but oddly enough
it didn't mention the problem that the person on the receiving end
may be using a mail reader with non-proportional fonts. Is there any
way around this problem?

Well, sounds like Usenet's going to the dogs at last. Those people
will be the first against the wall when Usenet revolution comes. 

If there will be a reform only - than I'll beg for a second kind
of Usenet parallel to the new one: Usenet_text_only!!

I'll stay away from the debate as to whether this is a good thing or
not. But, out of curiousity, I wonder if you could mention a couple of
newsgroups for which HTML is the default.
