A YAHOO! club?

     Hi everyone,

     I've just been getting into the YAHOO! clubs, they are pretty cool,
http://clubs.yahoo.com/ what would you think of a club for ASCII? It's almost
like a BBS with messages, news, links, pics, but the messages are not
fixed-width :(. Just a thought, thanks.

No fixed-width messages? Not much good then :o)

Seriously though, if this were to be done we'd probably get lots of
proportional-font ascii in here that was made for the Yahoo! thing... and
since it probably uses whatever font the browser is set to, it would be a
little iffy. And what news is there about ASCII Art apart from 'so and so
updates his/her website' ?

Ooh dear that message turned out more 'having a go at you' than I'd
wanted... sorry Lester that wasn't intended like that so please don't be
offended.

I'm not, I was just wondering if it would be a good addition to the group or
not, but you made a good point about the cross traffic.

Would it be possible to write to Yahoo! and ask if they could make a
small exception? (I mean, explain that ascii art really _needs_ a
monospaced font...)

(no, I haven't actually looked at this "club" stuff yet... maybe if I
knew there was something interesting to look at there...)

     I wrote them today about it, but I doubt that anything will come from it.

     There must be +500,000 clubs there, I've joined at least seven now. It's
interesting, but it seems like a lot of them loose members quick.

Heh, I play a game called Paintball NET a lot, and for chat and stuff it
uses Arial.  So, as you know, ascii is hard in Arial.  But the people
make it anyways (with aliases) and they get severely mauled because of
the spacing stuff.  There's only one half good one, and that's a stupid
truck that is edited to have stuff like: 

TLS COMING THROUGH!

PAINT TRUCK!

HONK HONK!

and it's terrible.  It has a lot of little details and it looks funny,
actually. =)
