Linux console image to ASCII conversion

Linux console image to ASCII conversion

alt.ascii-art · 2 messages · 31 Mar 2005 - 1 Apr 2005
Hi,
I installed AA-Lib on my linux server because I want to convert on the
fly all the images on my web site and make a lynx friendly version of
the site with ascii images.

The problem is that I need to call aview from a php page, but if I call:

"aview image.pnm > image.txt"

the output file is a binary one... (!)

Do you know a way to convert on the fly and from console an image to a
text ascii file?

Thanks a lot.

image2ascii should come with convert which is part of ImageMagick.

And you can set the size too.

image2ascii -geometry 50x50 ~/file.pnm

There are other ways too. Launch the pic in aview and mouse the image
into your editor.

You spend 2 years without instlling a mouse, sound, or graphics driver
on your system and you learn a few things about creating ascii images
from source files. :)
