(Sorry if this was already mentionned previously here.) I think everybody here should check the interview of John Sheetz : http://www.archive.org/details/20030322-bbs-sheetz He talks about "pre ascii-art" in the form of teletype over HAM art! Did you happen to follow the link http://www.acid.org/info/mirror/jgs/history.html (jgs? hmmm.) About 1/4 way down is a typewriter art butterfly. I don't know if it used fraction carridge adjustments but it looks like it might, Somewhere I've got a collection of lpr art from wuarchive. I'll did a few out. Some of them use overstrikes and I'm not sure what to do about them tho. ccch

If you are feeling really brave you could use gimp or photo shop and recreate each layer of overstrikes as a transparent png or gif and put all the layers out so we can see an evolution of the work.
