Question: How To Create ASCII Art?

Newby asking (possibly with great naivite):  How or where do I get a/the ap-
plication to create ASCIII art?  The software shops have not been able to
find any program to sell me for this purpose.

abled.  There are no graphics of course, that's why I'm looking for something
I can use to create images, however crude, for Email.

If you have any info, please respond by Email.  Come to think of it, I may not
be the only one with this problem, maybe the answer should be on USENET too.

If you've been trying to find a commercial program to help you create
ASCII art, don't waste your time or money.  There are shareware and
freeware programs that do an excellent job and are worth registering.

Here's the programs I use:

TheDraw, by Ian Davis.  I've found it to be the easiest way to make
ASCII screens, it lets you cut/paste blocks with the mouse, includes
built in fonts that are really easy to use, just try it!  Shareware.

GifAscii, by 'Scarecrow'.  Turns GIF pictures into ASCII text.  I use it
so I have a starting point to work from, then I fix up the picture a
lot in TheDraw.

Microsoft Word for DOS version 5.0.  Well, you don't have to use this
program, just have a text editor on hand that makes it easy to edit
out extraneous carriage returns and spaces.  Also, if you have a lot of
ASCII art in one file, you'll need a text editor to extract the part you
want to work on in TheDraw.

All the programs I mentioned are MS-DOS based, but GifAscii is available
for many other platforms.  Look for TheDraw in shareware libraries, use
Yahoo (http://www.yahoo.com) to search for it.

   Just a note to mention that I did not create any of the GIF to ASCII 
programs.  I only store them on my FTP site.
