newbie's work

hi all,
i am new to this newsgroup, here's my work, any comments are fine:

Looks garbled , messed up , out of sync..

The reason for this is that you have used the font called Arial to draw this.
Arial is a proportional font .. which means that not all characters are of equal
width. This causes problems when displayed on a computer which does'nt have the
exact same font or newsreader.

Therefore all ASCII images are drawn in a fixed-width font (like courier or
courier-new) because even if displayed on a different computer with a different
fixed-width font, the image will look much the same - Besides it's easier to
draw an ASCII if you are sure the characters are of equal width.

I redoddled you image in courier-new .. now it looks like this.
(remember to read it with a fixed-width font)

Nice .. try to do some more using fixed-width fonts.
TIP : In my opinion the best ASCII's are the funny and cute ones .. they are
always very popular .. weapons of massdestruction are not at the top of the
wishlist .. but ofcourse anyone can draw anything they'd like.

 a) RIfle of Leo looks much beter.
 b) Rifle of CeeJay is all messed up and garbled. I have no idea how did he
achieve this using Courier New :)

A) Apperently, you don't use Courier New. 
B) Try using a _real_ newsreader instead of OE.

All the simple programs have been written, and all the good names taken.

Check the FAQ for some good newsreader suggestions. Off the top of my
head Free Agent or Agent for Windows, MT- Newswatcher or MacSoup for
Mac. I'm sure that one of the linux people here could suggest a good
reader for that OS as well.

Well, I use Netscape Communicator on my Linux, and it handles the ascii
pretty well.

 As you might see in the headers (or not, if you are using OE ;) I am
using slrn[1]. It comes from Linux but has also found it's way to
Win9x/NT. For me it's the perfect newsreader - it can help you in so
many different ways and is fully configurable (even each single
key-stroke!). If you need any help with it just let me know :)
