Reiterating a bit, but Nerd Boy is being funny this time around. Note the manga
style sweat drop at the side of his face, indicating that he's nervous. I like
manga, and it shows sometimes.

Look!
Wheel chairs! Cool!

The beginning of a new story arc. I just doodled some wheel chairs and thought
that I might include them in the strip. Originally, the nurse on the right said
something lame like "We're going to lose our jobs!". Luckily, I reworked the
last line to "Sure, like those kidneys last week", implying that the nurse on
the left was a kleptomaniac. Then I just added a little spice. :) In fact, this
is how I make most strips. Start off with a doodle, work out a mini-story that
is on the verge of "amusing" and then rework the punchline until it's funny.

Yep, it's the typical "uh oh, we're in trouble" part of the story arc. No story
without a problem. I very much like the comic pause technique known as "a beat"
in sketch scripts (just read some Monty Python scripts). As an exercise for the
writer (that's me), this episode would look like this as a script:
~~~
EXT. ROAD -- DAY
Nerd Boy and Mandy are riding wheel chairs downhill.
MANDY
WHEEE! These wheel chairs really
gain speed downhill!
NERD BOY
Also, they don't seem to have any
brakes!
A beat.
MANDY
AAAAAAAAH!
NERD BOY
AAAAAAAAAH!
~~~
Mandy's shocked expression is of course the actress's interpretation of the
part. :)
