But if that went over your head, don't worry. Just use the characters I've listed above. Be careful, though. For example, the character you used (ISO-8859-1 code 180, acute accent, not ASCII) may be nearly impossible to tell in some fonts from ' (ASCII code 39, apostrophe or single quote). There are also several ASCII characters that can look different in various fonts. Well, they all can and do, but for some this is more marked. ~, for example, may be placed at the level of either - or ", and the same goes for ^ and *. In some fonts ' is vertical, in others it slopes and is a mirror image of `. < and > may be as tall as ( and ), or the may more closely resemble =. Most of those differences don't matter much, but ~ in particular can be deceptive, because, if your font has it near the top, it's tempting to use it for overlining. (ISO-8859-1 has a real overline character, but ASCII doesn't.)
