ASCII defines the characters from 0 - 127 - 7 bits.  The only characters
in the ASCII character set that are not on the keyboard are control char-
acters.

PCs do not use the standard ASCII set; they actually have symbols for the
remaining characters (128-255) and the control characters (1-26, one for
control-A through control-Z, and 27, the Escape key).  That's not a stan-
dard supported by anybody else; Macs, Ataris, Amigas, and the whole range
of UNIX workstations display their own funny symbols when you use any of
those PC symbols.  (Do note that most of these systems use font sets and
generally have some way of viewing files using a PC font, but very few
users will use a PC font standardly.)
