Large Moon (pic)
alt.ascii-art
· 32 messages · 19 Jan 2000 - 30 Jan 2000
Hi,
In anticipation (let it not rain!) of the forthcoming eclipse,
here is another ascii moon pic that I drew today (from a sketch I had
made at an earlier date).
BTW thanks goes to a few unknown artists who indirectly showed
me how to represent a circle in ascii. Without that knowledge,
this would just be so many splotches on a flat plane. (probably
looks that way to some, anyhow ;)
Sorry for the flaws in scale. Though the main points are present
I would'nt be using this as a map!

Then we could say that the following ascii art (yes, we could say this is kind of a ascii art) o O ^ ^ | | The moon The earth (flattened on the poles !) would be the real size of the moon ;o)# ? Anyway, nice result, really !
O the moon and the earth - real proportion ( with 1,3256% error)
Bernard Boiron wrote: >aprox. Mag.16x] ? Hum...Looks like the moon's getting smaller than i >thought ! By mag. I meant the magnification obtained by a 26mm eyepiece inserted into a 400mm telescope. In other words 16 times greater detail than you would see with the unaided eye (of course this is open to interpration since it's a challenge to show detail in ascii). Sorry for the lack of clarity. ][ncogni']['o

Yeah, I found 2 ` (I call `em back quotes) on the left side of the sphere where it flattens out. Still can't find the "degree" symbol you found (I would've needed to type an alt-code to insert that, which I don't recall doing), so maybe there's 3 bad characters. That (~) is called a tilde, squiggle, or twiddle, depending on your location.
It's pefectly valid. In fact any ASCII code from 32 to 126 ($20 to $7E hex),
inclusive, is acceptable here.
