Hallo,

Sometimes then I look at some ascii-pictures which are posted here
I see odd "file://"-texts in these. What can I do to stop this
(except using another newsreader ;)  ) ?

I only see stuff like that (usually x@y being turned into an email address)
when using the default variable-width font. Have you tried View/Text
Size/Fixed? You may be using a fixed-width font as the default font anyway
(which is usually variable-width), but perhaps OE only stops finding
hyperlinks if you specify a fixed-width font.

Your problem is caused by this:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2919.6600

Update it to a newer version.  http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
or http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie
