I was thinking about what I was asking about using system libraries as input to an ASCII banner/figlet type program. TROFF does plotters, and therefore may not be an ideal candidate for that sort of thing, but what about a font that was actually designed for a raster display device? Is there a program for changing X-WINDOWS fonts into ASCII banners ? Are the X-WINDOWS fonts stored as B-Splines, vectors, Display Postscript ? Is it possible to export a raster bitmap out of X-WINDOWS ? It would be nice if FIGLET could be used with the fonts that are already part of the system libraries. Not only would it save a great deal of space, but a standard base of fonts could be assumed as a working set across multiple sites. Hmm... it's something to think about, anyway.
