Font-Problem

I need some expert advise on the fixed-pitch-fonts. Im drawing my pic's on
M$-Edit, here's an example:

   ~-...-~

On Edit, it looks exact like a 2-liner UFO. Then, when opening with Notepad, it
still looks _quite_ good. But, when looking at it in ForteAgent, where I used
CourierNew (I changed it to FixedSys), it looks like nothing because of the
'~'-character. The '~' is on CourierNew in same height as '-'. 


How to handle this? With `'` and '`', or '"'?

I took a look at this in CourierNew, also looking stupid. Don't care about
CourierNew users? Hmmm?

Don't be too hard, I'm still beginner (look at my vanishing point or the big
emoticons :)

Next, when creating borders. '~' as the opposite to '_' I'm gaining one row
inside with (nearly) same look.

Oh... maybe I posted too much :/ forgive me.  I took a look again at this
message with CourierNew... :-C *all* pics stupid. Finally, same at my sig:
