help! Small disaster with corrupt file, 600KB useless...

A little file (ok, not so little, ca 1.5MB) that I keep open to
copy-and-paste stuff into wouldn't unzip today. I got this error
message:

gunzip: diverse.gz: invalid compressed data--crc error

I have managed to unzip parts of it but ca 600KB in the middle just
looks like garbage. Any help to restore it would be very welcome. Here
is what the distorted part of the file looks like:

Since it wouldn't be a good idea to spam this newsgroup with that much

It looks like a lot of what is there can be accessed with dejanews. Why
not use the powersearch

http://www.dejanews.com/home_ps.shtml

and type in keywords and names.
