ideas for jave!?

hi there
what about the selection mode? for image 2 ascii jave needs to know
the lightnes of every character.. why not use this knowledge to make a
"only lighter characters" "only darker characters" "add" and
"substract" mode for the selection?
that would also open up new editing features like brushes!
you have a antialiased brush like this
,,..
7WWWWF
'(WWWWWW)'
\JJWWWWJJ/
/TTMMMMTT\
.(MMMMMM).
JMMMML
``''
and you start drawing.. the characters drawn and the ones below them
will be added/subtracted in their brightness value and the
corresponding character will be placed there.. you may even be able to
set opacity
this would also make "invert" (also called "negative" possible for
hand-refined asciified images if refining them in inverted mode is
easier or if you would like it on a black surface with white writing
and only have the ascii, not the original image

(mark the image to see what i mean)
it would open up a big variety of editing possibilities similar to
those in graphic editing programs.. wich is sometimes what you really
need. think of a blur or a brightness/contrast enhancement or
transparent layers or.....
oh and what about a ascii to image converter? :)
sorry if i have bothered you but i am a highly crazy over-creative
media designer :)) and ...ehmm.. that's just another of my spontaneous
ideas i have but can't realize myself

Hi, Thanks for sharing your ideas. I will write them all down to my list. From time to time I take some of them and integrate it into Jave. > oh and what about a ascii to image converter? :) There will be some kind of Ascii2Gif converter in the very next release of Jave. It creates thumbnail images. I don't know if that's what you have in mind but we will see. > sorry if i have bothered you but i am a highly crazy over-creative > media designer :)) and ...ehmm.. that's just another of my spontaneous > ideas i have but can't realize myself Hey, I like crazy ideas. So don't mind sharing them all - maybe I like them and you will see them in the next release of Jave :-) Markus -- http://www.jave.de

How about animated text where JAVE could extract only the changed "letter cells"
and build an animated java script (viewable inside JAVE, a web page, or possibly
a downloadable applet that could run standalone...maybe even with wav/midi support)

If you have windows(x) you can view you ascii, hit the printscreen key
then in most any graphics program use edit/paste to insert a screen shot
which can then be edited to just the area you want.

There's some key combo to do screen grabs on Macs, too. And X windows has xwd: X window dump. But one of the better ways to do it is use pbmtext, a Unix command line tool. It is not limited to making things that can fit on your screen. Then you can scale those images to produce interesting effects. Here is the image2ascii "comp1d" image as converted to 320 char wide ascii and then scaled to a ~ 640x800 GIF: http://www.panix.com/~eli/A2I/ Elijah ------ loves command line image editing
