Hopefully, one day, this will all be avialable on an FTP site somewhere, but I'd like to get a big library first. There you go. You want a comment, Mr. Dutch Dude, so I have one for you:
Altogether your masterpieces are not bad, just a bit too big, and you use the
same characters again and again (#, X and space), so after a while it gets a
bit boring. I would not like to use these pics in my mail; they should be a
part of it, but not the main theme.
My favourite theme is notes; I admit it took me a while to find a way to make
them small enough for my purpose.

Unless you have the talent of Leonardo da Ascii you are unlikely to get much feedback on your efforts posted to this newsgroup. Most folks look at artwork and remain silent ( perhaps mercifully ). My comments: Your pictures are a bit large for my taste - similar in size/length to the GIF conversions in which Allen Mullen excels. I prefer pictures which fit within an 80 line x 24 row screen and my preference is mainly for line art or at least pictures which are clear and distinct, not blurred or fuzzy in outline or lacking definition in important detail which makes me have to concentrate in deciding just what the picture is depicting. Hi Dutch Dude... I am going to be brutally honest. You are making a threat like a spoiled child. "If no one makes use of my art, I might move on." Personally I love ascii art and I enjoy fishing through all the different offerings. I am not a graphic artist and I don't pretend to be a critic, but nothing you have offered so far has been particularly noteworthy. I'm sorry you're not getting the response you were waiting for, artists do art because they love it not because they expect a certain response. If I asked for a particular picture (which I don't) I would extend not only my thanks, but some kind of service in exchange for time and energy involved. Quid pro quo. However when I do my sculpture I do it because I enjoy it and it gives me satisfaction. I believe that it is because of that personal enjoyment that my work is recognized and sold. Much of the work here is extraordinary and humorous. It is like a visual form of haiku, full of subtlety and style. Honestly your work rarely reaches that level. Perhaps it is because you are too concerned with the response? I know that many will probably disagree with me and normally I would keep my mouth shut, but the tone of "If you won't play my way, I'll take my ball and go home" was silly enough to require a response. Focus on the work and not the audience. E.
Hello Dutch: I've never seen your work, Dutch, but I am an artist as well. As an artist, I can understand your desire to be recognized for your work. However, as an artist, I also understand that if your work is good and people see it as good, then you WILL be told so. If your work is not good, then, as an artist, YOU should understand that people will likely remain silent rather than hurt your feelings... but you must keep trying for the gold (as we all do.)
