REQ: Techniques, tips and advice

As you can see, my signature is not very creative. Could someone give me some tips for producing ASCII artwork. I'm a professional cartoonist and would like to produce a signature that is worth looking at. I find that the software translators available are clumsy. But I also find it tedious pressing the space bar, and realigning everything whenever something goes in. Any good programs, any tips or indispensible techniques. Perseverence has already been considered. TIA -- WARNING NO JUNK MAIL Unsolicited commercial mail will be reciprocated with MANY unwanted subscriptions.

Well, I usually use the editor that my comunications program has built in. but you can use any others. The way I normally start a project is to put blank lines however long i want my art to be. and then puting my curser into overwrite mode instead of insert for the actual drawing (keeps me from having to 'realign' things). My tip:
Fill the page up with spaces (copy + paste is good for this) then set
yout test editor to overtype mode so everything appears in the right
place and doesn't shift when you add bits!.
Hope this is of help!

Yep it depends on the program you're using, try pressing the 'insert'
key, that works on quite a few text editors/word processors.

I am only a newcomer to ascii art as it is practiced by the inhabitants of
this newsgroup but from experience with DOS programs and the BBS scene I
would suggest that it would be worthwhile to grab a copy of a ansi/ascii
drawing programs such as THE DRAW or BOX EDIT or similar. You do not then
have to worry about insert or overstrike mode as much and can position your
cursor anywhere within the workspace.
These programs also allow you to specify which character you wish to draw
with and even colours if you wish to get into the ansi side of things. I
would suggest that care be taken when posting ansi graphics to a newsgroup
though in raw format. They should be uencoded.
cya :)
