Ok, then either the newsreader is using a proportional font or notepad
is. 

You said you are using Windows95; so unless someone has been hacking
your registry/system settings, notepad is using a fixed font.

So... That leaves your newsreader. I personally have never used AOL so I
am afraid that I don't know EXACTLY what must be done to get it to use a
fixed font. I seem to remember some posts a while back that explained
what to do to get AOL's newsreader to use fixed fonts. A search at
DejaNews should get the information you need.

A good idea is to check out the alt.ascii-art FAQ's that gets posted
here on a regular basis. I think that there are instructions you need
there.

You can also do the copy/paste and ignore what the picture looks like
after the paste. It should post correctly assuming you did the copy
correctly.
