Hello all. Recently I snarfed a program called ANSIMAN by a Jeff Robertson
off the Web. It generates Mandelbrot fractals using ANSI codes, resulting in
interesting fractals with 24 colors (it uses background colors for shading).
Anyhow, it displays level sets and everything and looks all right, considering
it's in 78x23.
But I thought it would be nice to have ascii fractals, so I went and modified
it to calculate 6 pixels per character and use the anti-aliasing algorithm
described in an old ascii art FAQ to display them. Theoretically, it has 150%
better resolution, and it doesn't look bad. Of course, without colors it
doesn't have the level sets, and filaments of course disappear.
Anyhow, I'm not going to bother to clean up my code, document the changes, and
post it if no one is interested, so if you are, just tell me. ANSIMAN is
available from Jeff's page, wherever it is. Here are two examples. The first
is the main set, the second is a mandelbrot within the main set. If you're
interested in the program and the sources, please e-mail me and maybe I'll
post to some binaries NG (where would it be appropriate?)
