The thing on veronica's page is rubbish (no offence you ascii is great).
Simply paste the above text into notepad, save, open in a dos editor and
it is a realy good piece of work.

How do I paste text into notepad and open in a dos editor from Unix? (And yes,
that *is* a relevant question!)

Eh? "Notepad"??? Never heard of it... (is it a PC thing?)

I have a "simple graphical text editor" called "emacs" and it looks like
shit there too... (and the same with another one called "pico") :(

"font"? In unix? you must be joking!

Could somebody please show me what this thing is _supposed_ to look
like?

I have a nice little PC program that somebody once gave me, you can use
it to create a gif image of what shows up on your screen:

Notepad is Windoze on IBM PC. It works in a windowing
environment but is only a very simple text editor without
fonts -- everything is shown typewriter style. If you
have any sort of decent windowing environment (Win, Mac or
X-Windows) you should be able to copy-and=paste from the
newsreader window into a simple editor window. Shouldn't you?

OTOH if you work in a keyboard-only environment, then surely
you can just save stuff into a file from the newsreader and
open it in a simple text editor which should show it typewriter style.

If you had read just a little bit further down in that post you would
have seen that I _have_ tried not one but two "simple text editors" and
it looked exactly the same there....

I'm saying "surely it's obvious.." because I think it's obvious; I'm
being as helpful as I can, but my knowledge is mostly IBM PC.

I haven't seen a decent windowing environment yet. But I haven't used X.

You can do it either way in either environment. The exact steps depend on
what programs you have. Please cut the abuse and try to be more helpful.

Well, when I was in kindergarten, I failed scissors, so to this day, I can't
get a license to cut. I paste real good though.

Speaking of paste, I once introduced a friend to one of my favourite foods -
Matzo(h) bread, and she said 'it tastes like paste'. I was obliged to tell her,
'Well, it _is_ paste, what did you expect?'.

Hey
Don't you'ns have something else to do other than getting your underwear
in an uproar. I've been in computers for over 25 years and i have never
seen such a bunch of childish younguns in my life. Personally i think
you need to grow up and get a life.

I don't know what got your Goat! I haven't seen the first watermark yet.
I have no idea what you're smoking, you probably don't either.
If you see something on my site that you like...You Go For It! OK!
If you don't want others to use any part or parts of your sig.
Then [don't] post it in public. My sigs change hourly.

By the way, if you'll look back almost three years, you'll see this sig.
And others like it in my sig files. Check the old header dates.

Not trying to be rude. And no pun intended, but, PISS UP A ROPE.
Next time, jump someones bones that cares.
You ain't got nothing i want, and never will have!
Now put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Calm. Down. Now.

What you have done is like taking a painting and painting over the
signiture.

Firstly, the people whose pictures you 'stole' (such an emotive word,
let's replace it) the people whose pictures you used (much better) own
(as in intellectual property) their art.

Using David Palmer's self-portrait is very much like using another
person's picture. I don't think you should use that one at all, but
maybe if you asked him very, very nicely he'd let you.

As to the other pictures, there is a convention here that states that
you may use any picture posted here as long as you retain the artists
signiture. For the pictures that you posted, if you post a message
asking who drew them, then you should get a reply if anyone knows.
Indeed, Andreas Freise has already told you who the artists of two of
the three pictures are.

If you draw your own pictures you have every right to give them away,
put them under the GPL, decree that no-one may use them under any
circumstances ever, or do anything with them that you want. However
the simple face of the matter is that you should (by law, and most
prevailant systems of morality) respect the rights of those who
created what you're using.

So, play nice, and no more sanctimonious, self obsessed messages huh?

Ah, "I've been in computers for over 25 years" is the beginning my
FAVOURITE kind of argument! Because you've been in computers for over 25
years, you must know what you are talking about! (Yeah, right.)

Well I've been in computers for under 5 years and I urge you to read

I asked the question "Why are you using my ascii self portrait in your sig?"

If you do, we must be identical twins who were separated at birth.
If you've been "in computers for over 25 years" we are probably the same
age.

I am not the slighted bit upset at you using any of my ascii art, I'm
flattered actually.

It's always nice to see a new person in this newsgroup. Why not post some of

This person is obvious ignorant and has not read the fact. Stealing
someone else's sig is not only offensive, but a really, really low
thing to do. Bug off, mister.

So just because the work of Leonardo DaVinci, Picasso, or Monet is shown to

You know what the funny part of this thread is?
DaVinci's work has never been copyrighted! Never ever.

Well, in that case, I'll go and use it for whatever I want. Change the
appropriate names above to artists who do have copyrighted work, when
reading.

My point stays the same.

I wasn't trying to make you change you point. I just thought it was
funny that you (and others) chose Da Vinci's work to illustrate it.

Yes, you can use Da Vinci's work to do whatever you want. Be sure not
to use a reproduction of it because it will be probably copyrighted
by a photographer or a publisher.

That reminds me of this guy who wanted a tatoo of one of Escher's
work and asked permission for it. A phototgraph who wanted to make a
picture of this fellow to use as a postcard, had to ask him permission,
and Escher's family, and the tatoo artist too.

Drop me a line if you want a
tatoo of one of my ascii's.
