Looks like you are the one to ask Mike. Where are they posting ascii
art (coloured or otherwise) on IRC these days? I went to a channel
ages ago and had a nice time. Even saw what some of them had done with
ascii I made. Anyway, I have looked on IRC but not found any this
time.

Mike or anyone have a list?

Or DCC txt files to each other or paste them in DCC chats.

Depends on the network. On dalnet it takes a lot for the server to
kill you. DCC chats don't go through the server so they'd be safe.

Well you go "CHECK THIS ASCII OUT" and hopefully everyone will shut up
until it is done =) I'd imagine the room wouldn't be continuous ascii.
It would probably mainly be chat.

They were using a specialized script or software. I downloaded it at
the time but its ages ago. I don't remember the software though I
think it started with a K.

Other than my server (see sig) which is where I "hang out" while I draw and script,
in your IRC client (mIRC is my prefered software for several reasons)
use:
 /server irc.awesomechat.net 6667 (dumps you auto into a chat/"popup" channel)
 /server OklahomaCity.OK.US.ChatNet.Org 6667 (use /list after connecting and find one)
 /server tsunami.ma.us.dal.net 7000 (or 6667) (use /list popups or /list mirc_ )
some are better than others, few have original ASCII (and extended character) Art, most
though not all are giving proper credit.
I am redoing some pictures and adding one or two to a "presentation" or "show" for
Halloween and will be around mid-week if interested.

If you like that go to her website, she's made lots of castles and
other buildings. All of them are great. :) Sherry doesn't seem to be
posting much but its nice that she is still around.

texts are "played" to an IRC channel with the speed controlled to prevent
flooding.

the command for a Plain text kept in C:\mirc\ASCII\ named big_head.txt
would be played with the command /play C:\mirc\ASCII\big_head.txt 1000

people would then see:

                                         .-----------------------.

displayed in the channel with a one second delay between lines (horizontaly)

a scripted shortcut _might_ be like this depending where in mIRC it was used

in "alias.ini":
/playtxt {
var %text = $dir== *.txt
var %speed = $calc($lines(%text) * 100)
.play # %text %speed
}

or in "remote.ini"
alias playtxt {
var %text = $dir== *.txt
var %speed = $calc($lines(%text) * 100)
.play $chan %text %speed
}

With either you would type /playtxt and then be able to select a file to "play"

$dir== *.txt is a wildcard that allows you to find a file without knowing the
full path and the script calculates the length of the file to set the delay
time between posted lines to prevent flooding.

I made a change that shows the file info:
/playtxt {
  var %text = $dir== *.txt
  var %speed = $calc($lines(%text) * 100)
  echo -a %text $lines(%text) lines at %speed
  .play # %text %speed
}

using this I "played" an ASCII-ified comic based on an e-mail joke I received.
the following is what is displayed in channel

C:\mIRC\ALTASCII\arab_joke.txt 27 lines at 2700 <-- local "echo" only
