This is the best that I can quickly come up with:

Not ideal situation (regular bus):

  _____________________________
 /_  __  __  ___   ___   __   _\  _
|__)(__)|[]|(___) (___)/|  | (_| ( )
|       |  |           ||  |   |  |           o
[,-.____|__|___________||__|,-.]  |   __o o  _/\
 `-' ejm98             |/   `-'   |  (  \ _]|   )
                _  c                / \  ;(*)  /\
                 |[_
                (*).;
                       `[Now what?]

Ideal situation (wheel trans bus with ramp):

  ___________________________
 /_  __  ___   ___   ____   _\        _
|__)(__)(___) (___)/|   o| (_|       (S)
|                  ||  <|\   |        |
[,-._______________||__/||,-.]        |
 `-' ejm98         |/ \__\`-'  o  _   |
                               _]|
         _  c                ;(*)
          |[_
         (*).;
               `[works for me....]

Hmm... I think a lowrider bus would be better. Like the ones they use in
California, and the very same ones that make up half of the city bus
fleet here....

                Doors wide enough
                for a wheelchair.

In the front are seats along the side (instead of facing forward)
reserved for seniors and handicapped people, and can fold away to allow
room for wheelchairs.
The aisle is wide enough for a wheelchair, and each front-facing seat
can hold 2 people. Past the back door, there are two steps, and the back
seats are at a higher level.
Usually, the floor of the bus is about 2 inches higher than the curb.
Can be higher or lower depending on the street and curb... But, the bus
can lower itself up to four inches to let wheelchairs get on easier,
and/or let seniors step aboard easier.

If you are concerned about non-accessible buses, start a petition and
complain. Even the most in-debt bus system can switch over (if ours is
any proof!:) to the more comfortable, smoother running, environmentally
friendly, disability-and-wheelchair friendly, lowrider buses...
Half our buses are lowriders... the major routes alternate between
lowriders and the older buses every run around the route. The older
buses can be used like this, or used to start a few "direct" runs
between major centers, or sold to another company, such as a bus rental
company, or whatever company manages the school buses.
