ASCII anims in web page help needed

alt.ascii-art.animation · 6 messages · 11 May 1998 - 13 May 1998
I have 9 ascii animations i have done that I want to include in my home

page but from what i've seen people must use javascript/html codes

inside the aniamtion for it to be shown.

Is it possible to make a javascript code that loads up the ascii anim

from a remote file so i dont need to tamper with it. Can escape codes be

interrpreted into web pages??

Help is appreiated.

thanks in advance

Clint,

I've found it is a pain, but it is the only way to get them to look
right on most browsers is to do it long handed....unfortunately...I'm
sure llizard will let you know for sure though, she is who I learned it
from. Cut and Pasting the old fashion way. *LOL, at least we don't have
to retype it all anymore. LOL*

Why don't you go to The Omega's Javascript Help Forum

http://transload.starblvd.net/cgi-bin/forum?name=the_omega

and ask it there.

But having said that, it's not that difficult (though as Donovan says,
it is somewhat time consuming even with cut and paste) to copy and paste
your animations into the Javascript animation coding. Have you looked at
my template?

http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/9334/animlesson.htm#top

I think it's pretty straight forward.

I hope you get your ASCII-animations running soon. I'd love to see them.

I think maybe Kangaroo has written a program. I have no idea if it
works.

http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Marina/4942/ascii.htm
click on "animations" and then "FAQ" at the bottom of the animations
frame.

Looking forward to seeing your animations....

WHat my question as is i was asking if i can keep my ascii anims intact
without having to convert them to javascript and just load them in
through javascript instead, but anyway i might write a program in basic
to do conversion without me having to cut and paste... painful when two
of my ascii anims are over 800k.

Thanks for your assistance anyway, i'll post some in the next few weeks.

Clint

If your other animations are in the same form as the one you posted
a while ago, ie ascii frames separated by control codes on a separate
line, then I have a perl script which will convert them (it works on
your r&c.vt anyway).

I've put the code at http://www.dmriley.demon.co.uk/code/vt2js
I don't know if it will run on your system but IIRC you can get perl
for windows, I think www.perl.com is the site. Otherwise I could convert
them for you, mail me if you'd like me to.
