ASCII Maps

Does anyone have any advice or tips on making ASCII maps? I'm having a
party this weekend and I want to make a local street map that I can send
out to people by e-mail.

Any help is appreciated!

The nice thing about street maps as opposed to most other ASCII drawings
is that you can simplify them. Only show the relevant streets, straighten
out curves as much as you can (without losing the context of the message),
etc. If you want, I can post a few simple ones I've drawn in the past.

Here's a simple method, assuming it's an average grid layout area. You
can add to it all you want, this is just a suggestion for proportions and
whatnot.
