What do we call these?

Greetings. I'm looking for a place that lists some of these kinds of
things:

♥*¨)
¸.*´¸.**´¨) ¸.**´¨)
(¸.*´ (¸*´¨(♥ Gling!
(¸.*´ (¸.*´♥

I see these listed in peoples emails and I love them, but what would I
even call this stuff? I've looked under ASCII art, but that is always
drawings. I just want embellished text really.

Any help appreciated.

Its just some ansi. The problem with using it is that it won't
display the same every where. For example when I read your post I saw
this:

> ??.*????.**????) ??.**????)
> (??.*?? (??*????(?? Gling!
> (??.*?? (??.*????

There was a thread a while back (years) on making something like that
out of actual ascii characters. `-.__,-'

The reason that you can't find it under ASCII art is that it's not
part of the ASCII Character Set. The post you made used
charset=EUC-KR, which doesn't appear to be something that renders on
my system. The original post on Google looks even worse...

or

You can create some very nice ASCII signatures without using exotic
character sets by using tools like Figlet http://www.figlet.org/ and
JavE http://www.jave.de/ .

You might also be interested in the ASCII Art FAQ, which has a wealth
of information about creating character based art,

It displays correctly with the latest/current version of slrn ;)

But as you point out, it's not ascii.

Which term are you useing? I the nicest thing about slrn is that I
never have felt the need to have the newest version. The old ones
always seem to work until its time to get a new computer. If only all
software worked that good.

That's a complicated question :) I use slrn in a screen window
over a putty ssh session. So my $TERM is screen-256color or
something like that.

What's yours?

Indeed the version you are using is a very good and stable
version. That's why it was so long before the subsequent
releases.

Probably the major improvement that you'll notice if you upgrade
will be better char support.

Do you compile your own from source or use packages from whatever
distro you have?

It alternates between a putty term over ssh and an aterm. GNU screen
is used with both of them to make the most out of hopping back and
forth.

I am guessing that I compiled it because it is in /usr/local. I think
current versions of slackware come with it so I my have compiled my
last slrn build.
