pic 2 ascii?

Does anybody know how to convert 'real' pictures to 
ascii pictures? Are where programs or algorithms
that can do so? I'd like to know about them.

One is named ascgif, for unix. I've got the source in C if you need, but
else, you can find it, and other ones, in Yahoo: Arts: Computer
generated: Ascii Art and then search a bit, or there:



   You can make them from scratch if you are a very good ASCII artist.
An
easier way is to use a program called 'ASCGIF'.  There is also Gifscii
(with
a version for the Mac), ANSIrez and GIF2ANSI for the PC.  These programs
makes an ASCII pic from any image you can convert to a GIF.
