ascii art on pirch irc client

Does anyone here use pirch for irc? I especially like it cause I can change the art to differnet colors (actually just red and blue) and italics too. I seem to have trouble with my ascii art I play to irc...it shows up all out of line. I have found that I have to add a period to the begining of each line in order for the file to turn out right. I am using Courier 10 for my font, and I hear that is common. Any suggestions? Your help will be much appreciated!
