[DIS] Why isn't there an AsciiCon?

There are all kinds of conventions, but no AsciiCon? Isn't
that kind of dumb? Shouldn't we have a yearly something where
we all hang out and have silly contests and stuff, like all
those other subcultures do?

Still.. What activities would an AsciiCon have? Obviously
contests in different categories...

  - Mini ASCII art
  - Medium ASCII art
  - Huge ASCII art
  - ASCII comic
  - "Manual" ASCII art on paper

Any more ideas?

Sure, human ascii art. Make some kind of art (I want a nerd boy), draw the
ascii on the floor (you may need a huge place to do that), put people in
those ascii chars (you may need lots of people to do that). Let people
represent ascii. Photograph the whole thing from up above.

Anyone with an ascii art tatoo? ;-)

ascii murial, start with an outline of the whole picture and each person
does a section, maybe online?

combine it with a hackers convention, then upload the nights art to
all the websites they hack??

Everyone seems to be selling this one, but I can't get a

And this guy at Duke made a Perl program to convert B/W images
to ASCII for the express purpose of including on T-shirts, but
it's not really ASCII "art":

  - Tattoo exhibition, in case anyone has ASCII tattoos
  - ASCII mural/graffitti
  - T-shirt exhibition

Any more activities? We also need a time and a place. Anyone feel
like organizing an AsciiCon? This is the part where VK jumps in
and says "You do it!". And maybe I should, if enough people want
to come.

Good idea! (no, it didn't occur to me to suggest that)  :-)

When I first made my chat (in 1998) people started talking about how we
should all meet in one place IRL. Somebody (Joan? Shanaka?) suggested
Summer 2000 as a good time. Somebody else (me?) suggested Amsterdam as a
good place and people seemed to like that suggestion. Unfortunately, in
2000 everybody seemed to be either too broke or too busy/tired.
